The Catholic Herald posted a fascinating article about the prospects of bridging the divide between Catholics and evangelicals. The move implemented by the Pope could bring in language that would have the Vatican acknowledge a 'shared mission', united by 'one Gospel'. A lot of the work to change centuries of theology and name-calling stemming from the Reformation, was pushed forward in 1999 as the Lutheran and Catholic churches came together to declare, “a common understanding of our justification by God’s grace through faith in Christ”. Unified under a common banner is certainly big thinking, but so big that God can't welcome the magnitude of reconciliation. It's time to recreate our language for each other.
